Pregnant Cop Dies Suddenly at 30: ‘Like Someone Turned a Switch Off’

A young pregnant police officer has tragically died suddenly, leaving her devastated family desperate for answers.

After his pregnant partner died suddenly, a distraught father-to-be has told of his heartache at losing his “fiancée, best pal, and baby.”

Scottish police officer Erin McDermott, 30, was found dead by her devoted mom Lorraine.

Her devastated fiancée Chrissy Gaw says his “life will never be the same” after the mystery sudden death of his partner and their unborn child.

Loved ones have been left mystified by the unexpected tragedy.

Erin, who was 14 weeks pregnant, had been overjoyed to fulfill her long-held dream of parenthood after a successful round of fertility treatment.

In a statement, 29-year-old Chrissy, of Irvine, Ayrshire, said:

“We should have been getting our gender scan this weekend.

“We were so happy. All Erin had ever wanted was to be a mum.

“I’ve lost my fiancée, my best pal, and my baby.

“It’s devastating,” he revealed.

“None of us can take it in. Erin was everything.

“None of our lives will ever be the same.”

Mother Lorraine, 59, made the horror discovery at Erin’s home on September 12.

She went to check on her daughter after she had failed to turn up to a nail appointment.

Loved ones are now awaiting answers from a post-mortem by a specialist perinatal pathologist.

No cause of death has yet been revealed.

Erin suffered from gastroparesis — a digestive condition — and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes aged four.

However, relatives have confirmed that the tragedy is not linked to the condition.

They revealed that her diabetic monitor was tracking her health until the second she suddenly died.

Her father Jim, 60, said: “It’s stable and steady and then suddenly it drops off.

“Like someone turned a switch off.

“We can’t understand it. She was fine.

“We just can’t move on or even plan a funeral because we just don’t know what happened.

“We are living in limbo. It’s terrible.

“You wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

“We just need to know why,” he said.

“Why has this happened to our Erin?”

Erin had shrugged off warnings that she would never be accepted into the police due to her illness to qualify as a custody officer at 24.

“Nothing stood in her way,” Chrissy explained.

“She was so positive and determined.

“She had wanted to be a police officer since she was a wee girl and she made sure she made it happen.”

Keen traveler Erin had been around the world with her older sister Brogan, 33.

The pair had recently returned from a trip to Milan in Italy.

Loved ones have been inundated with flowers and sympathy cards.

Paying tribute to her daughter, Lorraine said:

“Erin celebrated her 30th birthday in February but we didn’t know that would be the last one.

“She’s forever 30. Memories are all we have left.

“Erin really was one of a kind.

“She was such a loving, thoughtful and beautiful person.”
