Republican Reps Vote to Remove Marjorie Taylor Greene from Freedom Caucus

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has been removed from the House Freedom Caucus after taking Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA)) side too many times on key votes.

Greene also feuded with Freedom Caucus member Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO).

Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) confirmed the removal, saying the Boebert feud was “the straw that broke the camel’s back.”

Harris said:

“I think the way she referred to a fellow member was probably not the way we expect our members to refer to other fellow, especially female, members.”

Greene reportedly called Boebert a “little b*tch” earlier.

“A vote was taken to remove Marjorie Taylor Greene from the House Freedom Caucus for some of the things she’s done,” Harris added.

“I think the straw that broke the camel’s back was publicly saying things about another member in terms that no one should,” he said.

Greene also went after Freedom Caucus member Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) after he came out against cutting funding to the Justice Department.

“Any Republican who has said or even written ‘Drain the Swamp’ must be ready and willing to cut funding, use impeachment, and use the Holman rule,” Greene said.

“Drain the swamp,” she added.

It is the first time the group has formally booted a member from its ranks.

Then-Rep. Justin Amash previously quit the group.

Harris noted that there was “one other member a couple of years ago, who we probably would have asked to leave, but we just decided not to.”

Members of the Freedom Caucus have been the driving force behind challenges to Speaker Kevin McCarthy as he tried to win the gavel and during a recent debt fight.

Though those strategies didn’t completely unify the group, Harris said Thursday that after the Greene vote there were no other remaining “large divisions.”
