House Republicans have introduced a new bill to ban the U.S. federal government from funding drag queen shows in foreign countries using American tax dollars.
As ludicrous as the need to propose such legislation sounds, Democrat President Joe Biden’s administration has been funneling taxpayer money abroad to fund drag performances and promote “diversity.”
It recently emerged that the State Department admitted paying a $20,600 grant for a cultural center in Ecuador to host “drag theater performances.”
The federal agency argues that the tax dollars give LGBTQ people a chance “to express themselves freely and safely” through drag queen events.
The grant was awarded to the Centro Ecuatoriano Norteamericano Abraham Lincoln (CENA) in Ecuador on September 23, Fox News reported in October.
CENA is a non-profit organization backed by the U.S. Embassy and Consulate in the country, to “promote diversity and inclusion” in the area.
The project at CENA will last until August 31, 2023, and includes “workshops,” “12 drag theater performances” and a “2-minute documentary,” according to Fox News.
On Monday, Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) introduced legislation that would prohibit federal funds made available for foreign drag theater performances.
“It wasn’t enough for the Biden Administration to push gender extremism in the United States, they have now taken their crusade to a global level, courtesy of our tax dollars, and it must stop,” Gohmert told the Daily Caller before introducing the legislation.
“To the world, the U.S. used to represent a nation that stood as a beacon of liberty and democracy.
“Now, we are a laughingstock as our leaders appear to care more about funding drag shows in foreign countries than they do about securing our own borders or curbing rampant inflation which is financially crushing our citizens.”
“The Biden Administration’s eerie obsession with cultural and gender radicalism emboldens our adversaries like Russia, China, and radical Islamists in Iran and tells those who wish to accelerate our demise that now is the time for aggression,” the congressman added.
“While the Left is fixated on facilitating the genital mutilation of minor children and drag shows worldwide, America’s streets are flooded with fentanyl, violent crime continues to escalate and inflation is bankrupting the Middle Class.
“Let’s please put an end to this ludicrous, reckless behavior, and focus on securing what’s left of our freedom,” Gohmert said.
Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) joined Gohmert in cosponsoring the legislation.
