Republicans’ New ‘SWAMP’ Bill Gives Trump Green Light to Sell Nancy Pelosi Federal Building for ‘Fair’ Price

Republicans have revealed a new House bill that gives President Donald Trump the green light to sell a federal building in California named after Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

The new bill is called the Stop Wasteful Allocations of Money for Pelosi (SWAMP) Act.

Led by Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA), the legislation would direct the General Services Administration (GSA) to “dispose of the property” or sell it “at fair market value and for the highest and best use.”

The SWAMP Act is the latest effort by House Republicans to enact Trump’s agenda through legislative means.

It comes amid a flurry of bills seeking to codify the president’s executive orders.

In a statement, Carter said:

“We are over $36 trillion in debt. Instead of maintaining expensive, underutilized vanity projects for liberal politicians, the federal government should be focused on efficiency and fiscal responsibility.

“Selling the Speaker Nancy Pelosi Federal Building is part of a broader effort to rein in federal overreaches, reduce our debt, and put American taxpayers first.”

The Nancy Pelosi Federal Building is an 18-story structure in San Francisco.

The taxpayer-funded building is home to several aspects of the U.S. government, including Pelosi’s own district office.

It also houses offices for the Department of Labor, Department of Health and Human Services, and the Social Security Administration, among others.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported last month that Trump was looking at selling the building named after his chief Democrat rival.

However, in a statement last week, the GSA denied the plan is politically motivated.

“GSA is prioritizing the reduction of deferred liability costs across our real estate portfolio, including the potential sale of buildings in need of extensive repair,” a GSA spokesperson said.

“Any suggestion that our planning is driven by politics is absurd.

“GSA is actively working with our tenant agencies to assess their space needs, and we’ll share more information on specific savings and facilities as soon as we’re able.”

The building was built with “environmental impacts” in mind.

However, the area surrounding the facility has fallen prey to illicit activities such as rampant drug use, homelessness, and crime.

In 2020, Trump signed an executive order during his first term aimed at revitalizing federal buildings.

The order referred to the Pelosi building as “one of the ugliest structures” in San Francisco.

The news comes after Trump’s Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) terminated the lease at the Obama Presidential Library site this week.

The library is located at the Hoffman Estates in the northwest of Chicago.

It is separate from the sprawling 19.3-acre Obama Presidential Center near Jackson Park in the southside of Chicago.

The Obama Presidential Center is under construction and is expected to be completed next year.

The site at the Hoffman Estates is run by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), as are all presidential libraries.

The Obama Presidential Center, meanwhile, is a private venture being overseen by the Obama Foundation.

DOGE this week updated its list of nearly 750 federal lease terminations, totaling around 9.6 million square feet in size.

The termination list now includes the Hoffman Estates site.
