Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is set to meet leaders of America’s food industry giants.
On Monday, Kennedy is scheduled to hold meetings with the leaders of General Mills and PepsiCo, along with the Consumer Brands Association.
While the topics for discussion have not been confirmed, it comes amid RFK Jr.’s Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) campaign.
The food industry as a whole has been a target of RFK Jr.’s since the initial launch of his presidential campaign.
It’s likely that Kennedy will discuss the U.S. adjusting its regulations for additives and dyes to meet European standards.
There are over 3,000 food additives permitted in the U.S., according to Tilley Distribution, a global specialty ingredients distribution center based in Maryland.
Meanwhile, the European Union only allows around 300 different food additives.
Kennedy and MAHA influencers have also been outspoken about banning seed oils.
The highly refined plant-based cooking oils were recently linked to an increased risk of colon cancer.
According to the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), synthetic petroleum-derived chemicals are commonly used as food coloring.
The CSPI is a nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C. that advocates for food safety and nutrition.
“Synthetic dyes often substitute for real, nutritious ingredients, such as fruits and vegetables, and are often used to make junk foods more attractive, especially those manufactured for and marketed to children,” the CSPI’s website states.
In January 2025, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced a ban on a red dye called Red 3, or Erythrosine.
The dye was banned due to potential cancer risks.
The meetings come after Kennedy recently blocked plans to roll out an “oral covid vaccine” for public use.
Kennedy halted a whopping $460 million taxpayer-funded federal contract to develop the “vaccine.”
Former President Joe Biden’s administration awarded the contract to a biotech company called Vaxart Inc.
Kennedy has issued a 90-day stop-work order to Vaxart Inc. to halt the development of the new product.
The order came after RFK Jr. discovered that 10,000 individuals were scheduled to begin clinical trials last Monday.
