Foo Fighters rocker Dave Grohl has issued a statement announcing that he has fathered a child outside of his marriage.
Grohl made the admission in a statement posted to his social media on Tuesday.
In a post on Instagram, Grohl said he has “become the father of a new baby daughter” as the result of an extramarital affair.
In the statement, Grohl wrote:
“I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage.”
The 55-year-old followed up on the shocking news with a few simple sentences that explained his current situation.
“I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her,” the ex-Nirvana drummer said about his newborn daughter.
Grohl addressed the impact of the affair on his nuclear family.
“I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness,” he said.
The rock star didn’t disclose any details about the woman he had an affair with, however.
He didn’t reveal how long he had been cheating on his wife.
Grohl didn’t indicate how old his new daughter was and opted to keep her name private as well.
“We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together,” he concluded.
Grohl switched off the comments on the post as well as all his other Instagram posts.
The move seemingly sought to prevent the public from weighing in on the bombshell revelation.
According to Page Six, Grohl and his wife Jordyn Blum were married in their Los Angeles home in 2003.
The couple share three children together: Violet Maye, Harper Willow, and Ophelia Saint.
This isn’t the first instance that Grohl has admitted to cheating, however.
Grohl’s marriage to his first wife Jennifer Leigh Youngblood broke down in 1997 after the star strayed.
He has often been described as a “family man.”
The famous musician has spoken about the importance of his family in interviews throughout the years, telling The Guardian in 2007:
“[My wife] Jordyn and [daughter] Violet are anchors that keep me from completely disappearing.”
Speaking to TIME in 2012, he said his family inspires his work.
“It’s changed everything that I do,” Grohl told the outlet.
“When you have kids, you see life through different eyes.
“You feel love more deeply and are maybe a little more compassionate.
“It’s inevitable that that would make its way into your songwriting.”
