DeSantis Comes Clean, Says Trump’s Endorsement Was Key to 2018 Election Win

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has revealed that he views President Donald Trump’s endorsement as being a key component of his 2018 gubernatorial election win.

During the race to the governor’s office, DeSantis was in a hotly contested primary and a too-close-for-comfort general election.

DeSantis has a new book coming out, “The Courage to Be Free.”

In the book, the governor talks about the key endorsement which is now a point of contention between the two frontrunners for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination.

“I knew that a Trump endorsement would provide me with the exposure to GOP primary voters across the State of Florida, and I was confident that many would see me as a good candidate once they learned about my record,” DeSantis writes.

“I had developed a good relationship with the president largely because I supported his initiatives in Congress and opposed the Russia collusion conspiracy theory.

“Trump also brought a unique star power to the race.

“If someone had asked me, as a kid growing up in the eighties and nineties, to name someone who was rich, I – and probably nearly all my friends – would have responded by naming Donald Trump.”

Trump recently called out Ron on Truth Social saying:

“Florida was doing GREAT long before Ron DeSanctus got there.

“People are fleeing from New York to Florida (and other places) because of high TAXES and out of control CRIME, not because of Governor (thank you President Trump!) DeSanctimonious.”
