DeSantis Lands Knockout Blow in Debate: ‘Only Worn-Out Old Donkey I’m Looking to Put Out to Pasture Is Charlie Crist’

Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis has shut down Charlie Crist by landing a knockout blow on the Democrat gubernatorial challenger during their debate last night.

Both candidates are making their closing arguments ahead of election day.

However, DeSantis has a huge lead in the polls are some are predicting he may even win the Democrat stronghold of Miami-Dade County.

At one point during the debate, Crist tried to trap DeSantis into confirming he plans to run for president in 2024.

Unfortunately for Crist, DeSantis turned to the tables to humiliate the Democrat with a devastating one-liner.

“Ron, you talk about Joe Biden a lot,” Crist said to DeSantis, despite agreeing not to ask questions during this segment.

“I understand, you think you’re gonna be running against him, I can see how you might get confused.

“But you’re running for governor. You’re running for governor.

“Why don’t you look in the eyes of the people of the state of Florida and say to them if you’re reelected, you will serve a full, four-year term as governor, yes or no?

“Yes or no, Ron. Will you serve a full, four-year term if you’re re-elected governor of Florida?”

DeSantis paused for some time while Crist mumbled before firing back: “Is it my time?

“Well, listen, I know Charlie is interested in talking about Joe Biden and 2024, but I just want to make things very, very clear.

“The only worn-out old donkey I’m looking to put out to pasture is Charlie Crist.”

DeSantis also made sure Florida knew who is responsible for the crushing inflation, Democrats like Crist.

“He’s locked together with these policies that have hurt so many people,” DeSantis said.

“He called for harsh lockdowns in 2020,” DeSantis said.

“If that would have happened, it would have destroyed the state of Florida … I lifted you up. I protected your rights.”

DeSantis also landed another knockout blow about Critical Race Theory (CRT):

“I don’t want to teach our kids to hate our country,” DeSantis said.

According to Politico:

Crist, 66, was once elected Florida’s governor as a Republican, but he ultimately switched parties and mounted his second run for governor against Rick Scott in 2014.

That race was extremely tight down the stretch but Crist — after easily knocking off Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried in the primary — came into the debate as a serious underdog.

The 44-year-old DeSantis barely won his race for governor four years ago, but the dynamics of the state have shifted during that time period as a wave of people have flocked to the state in the immediate aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Republicans now outnumber Democrats among active registered voters, changing the political make up of the once-perennial swing state to lean Republican.
