Singer Michael Bolton has announced that he has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.
The 70-year-old made the announcement in a message that he posted to his Instagram account over the weekend.
Bolton, in the message, revealed that the diagnosis came “just before the holidays.”
“I want to start by wishing everyone a very happy and healthy new year!” Bolton began.
He continued, “I also want to share that 2023 ended up presenting me with some very unexpected challenges.
“Just before the holidays, it was discovered that I had a brain tumor, which required immediate surgery.”
Bolton did not go into further specifics about the tumor but he did reveal that he had already undergone the surgery and that it was a success.
“Thanks to my incredible medical team, the surgery was a success,” Bolton wrote.
He added, “I am now recuperating at home and surrounded by the tremendous love and support of my family.”
Due to the tumor and the surgery, Bolton went on to tell his fans that he is going to have to take some time off from touring.
“For the next couple of months, I will be devoting my time and energy to my recovery, which means I’ll have to take a temporary break from touring.”
Bolton did not go into details about how long he thinks the break from touring will last.
But, he did assure his fans that he would be back as soon as possible.
“It is always the hardest thing for me to ever disappoint my fans or postpone a show, but have no doubt I am working hard to accelerate my recovery and get back to performing soon,” Bolton wrote.
He added, “I am beyond grateful for all the love and support you have so generously shown me through the years.
“Know that I’m keeping your positive messages in my heart, and I’ll give you more updates as soon as I can.
“Much love always, MB.”
The announcement of this medical issue might not come as that much of a surprise to some of Bolton’s fans – particularly those fans who witnessed his recent Christmas Day performance.
The Sun reports:
“It comes after Bolton had fans concerned after his performance during the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade.
“Viewers were left wondering about the state of the 70-year-old singer’s health as at least one viewer thought he appeared to be ‘in pain.'”
