Soccer Star Anthony Basso Dies Suddenly at 45

Soccer fans are in mourning following the tragic news that Anthony Basso has died suddenly.

The international French soccer star was just 45 years old when he unexpectedly passed away.

The goalkeeper began his career with the French side Auxerre but left at a young age to join the Serie A side Udinese.

Basso joined Scottish club Heart of Midlothian on trial in August 2007 and joined permanently later that month.

The Frenchman spent two years with the Edinburgh team, signing during the Vladimir Romanov era.

He made his debut against St Mirren on 30 September 2007 at Love Street, and Hearts won the match 3–1.

He is fondly remembered by Jambos fans despite only playing a handful of games – because one of them was a heroic display against Celtic in the League Cup during his first season.

Basso played a pivotal role in keeping a clean sheet when Hearts traveled to Celtic Park in October 2007 and came away with a 2-0 win.

Hearts said in a statement after learning of Basso’s passing:
