Ted Cruz Offers Heartfelt Prayer for Biden after 79-Year-Old President Tests Positive for COVID

Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has offered a heartfelt prayer for Joe Biden after it emerged that the 79-year-old president has tested positive for COVID-19 today.

Biden is experiencing mild symptoms, the White House revealed.

“Heidi & I are lifting up President Joe Biden in prayer right now,” Sen. Cruz said.

“May God’s healing hand be upon him, may Covid pass quickly, and may he have a swift and full recovery.”

“This morning, President Biden tested positive for COVID-19,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.

“He is fully vaccinated and twice boosted and experiencing very mild symptoms.

“He has begun taking Paxlovid,” Jean-Pierre revealed.

“Consistent with CDC guidelines, he will isolate at the White House and will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time.

“Consistent with White House protocol for positive COVID cases, which goes above and beyond CDC guidance, he will continue to work in isolation until he tests negative,” Jean-Pierre added.

“Once he tests negative, he will return to in-person work.

“Out of an abundance of transparency, the White House will provide a daily update on the President’s status as he continues to carry out the full duties of the office while in isolation,” she said.

Biden, who has never before tested positive for the virus, returned home from an overseas trip to the Middle East over the weekend and visited Massachusetts on Wednesday for a climate-focused speech.

He has been hosting large gatherings in recent weeks and interacting with supporters on the road as the White House has sought a return to normal despite the pandemic. Biden received his second COVID-19 booster shot in March.

Jean-Pierre said Thursday that Biden spoke by phone with members of his staff that morning and that he planned to participate in meetings by phone and Zoom from the White House residence.

From CNBC:

Biden has begun taking Paxlovid, an antiviral pill that can reduce the risk of hospitalization for people who test positive for Covid, the press secretary said.

First lady Jill Biden told reporters in Detroit, Michigan, on Thursday morning that her husband is “feeling good.”

“I talked to him just a few minutes ago, he’s doing fine,” Jill Biden said. She tested negative for Covid on Thursday, her office said.

Biden will work in isolation until he tests negative for the virus, Jean-Pierre said. He will hold all of his planned meetings remotely Thursday.
