Texas Democrat Robbed at Gunpoint While Attending DNC in Chicago

A member of the Texas Democratic Delegation has been robbed at gunpoint in crime-infested Chicago, according to reports.

The Democrat delegate was in town for the Democratic National Convention.

The victim, who was not named by police, was robbed at gunpoint while walking in downtown Chicago on Wednesday morning.

The victim confirmed that he was walking with a friend when they were targeted around 2 a.m. in the 100 block of West Randolph.

A black Land Rover Discovery pulled up on the 100 block of West Randolph, CWBChicago reported.

A gunman emerged from the vehicle to rob a 25-year-old man who was on the sidewalk near the Allegro Royal Sonesta Hotel Chicago, 171 West Randolph.

According to a Chicago Police Department (CPD) spokesperson, the crook took that man’s wallet and room key.

The robber crossed then immediately crossed the street to rob a 37-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman.

Those victims were the Democrat delegate and his friend.

No injuries were reported.

Chicago police issued a community alert about the robbery team on Thursday morning

Police are looking for two suspects – the gunman and the driver.

The alert said the suspects were responsible for another robbery that occurred in the 200 block of West Randolph around the same time that the delegate and two other victims were robbed.

The pair is also suspected of robbing three people outside the Emily Hotel, 311 North Morgan, around 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

Once again, they traveled in a black Land Rover Discovery.

Two gunmen approached the West Loop victims, displayed guns, and demanded their property, according to the CPD spokesperson.

The victims, an 18-year-old woman and two men, aged 19 and 20, complied with the robbers’ demands.

According to CPD, the robbers also committed a robbery in the 200 block of West 23rd Place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday.

Police described the robbers as two black males dressed in black and wearing ski masks.

They stand 5’7″ to 5’9″ tall.

Detectives from Area One and Area Three are investigating the crimes.

So far this year, there have been over 1,200 total reported shootings in Chicago as of July 7, according to police.

This is up 12 percent from the same period last year.

Gun crime continues to be a driving force for most of the homicides.

So far this year, 364 people were killed in the city, the Chicago Tribune reported on August 19.

Of those, 323 died from gunshot wounds.

Without mentioning the Texas delegate who was robbed at gunpoint, Washington D.C.’s Democrat Mayor Muriel Bowser said Thursday that the DNC was nothing but a “perfect experience” for her party this week.

“I’m in Chicago right now — and it couldn’t be a more perfect experience for our delegates and our party,” Bowser said on CNN.
