Tim Allen Overcomes Snub to Score Huge Win, Will Return as Buzz Lightyear for ‘Toy Story 5’

Hollywood star Tim Allen scored a huge win and announced he will star as Buzz Lightyear again in the latest “Toy Story” movie.

Disney revealed today that “Toy Story 5,” a new feature film as part of the beloved animated franchise, is in development.

“Today I’m so pleased to announce that we have sequels in the works from our animation studios to some of our most popular franchises, Toy Story, Frozen, and Zootopia,” said Disney CEO Bob Iger during the earnings call.

“We’ll have more to share about these productions soon, but this is a great example of how we’re leaning into our unrivaled brands and franchises.”

Allen shared a picture of the cartoon Buzz Lightyear and said, “See ya soon Woody, you are a sad strange little man and you have my pity.

“And off we go to a number 5!

“To infinity and beyond!”

The news comes after Allen was snubbed by Disney and replaced in the “Lightyear” the origin story.

“How about that,” Tom Hanks said of the snub.

“I actually wanted to go head-to-head with Tim Allen and then they didn’t let Tim Allen do it.

“I don’t understand that.”

According to Deadline:

The original Buzz Lightyear has finally spoken about the controversy over Chris Evans voicing the main character in Disney/Pixar’s Lightyear origin story.

“The short answer is I’ve stayed out of this ’cause it has nothing to do [with my Buzz Lightyear],” Allen told Extra of the new film in an interview published Wednesday.

The origin story of the film character that inspired the Buzz Lightyear toy from the Toy Story films replaces Allen’s talents with those of Evans.

But Allen pointed out, as many have, that he was voicing a toy and Evans an (animated) human being.

“It’s a wonderful story,” Allen said of Lightyear.

“It just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy, and it’s a little…I don’t know.

“It just has no relationship to Buzz. It’s just no connection. I wish there was a better connection.”

Allen also revealed that he was a part of discussions about the film early on.

“We talked about this many years ago. It came up in one of the sessions. I said, ‘What a fun movie that would be.’

“But the brass that did the first four movies,” he said likely in reference to departed Pixar chief John Lasseter, “this is a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies.”
