A new House proposal by Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) seeks to defund the office of Special Counsel Jack Smith.
In addition, the move would prevent all lawfare attacks that seek to disrupt America’s election processes.
The proposal would strip funding for “politically sensitive investigations,” particularly into current and former presidents and vice presidents during the next fiscal year, which begins September 29.
Jordan made the proposal in a letter sent to Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK).
The plan would also prevent any federal funds from being used to participate in any state prosecutions, such as the ones against President Donald Trump by New York Attorney General Letitia James and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, as well as civil prosecutions.
However, any such proposals would need to be passed by the House and Senate and signed by Democrat President Joe Biden to take effect–which is not very likely.
Jordan called the conviction of Trump by a Manhattan court on 34 counts of falsifying business records a travesty of justice.
The top Republican said it was done “to keep President Trump off the campaign trail and avoid bringing attention to President Biden’s failing radical policies.”
Such a policy would have ramifications for the investigation into Biden and his family’s alleged bribery scheme.
Republicans are currently investigating whether Biden or his family members used his political influence to trade favors for cash.
Ostensibly, those would also be verboten under Jordan’s proposal.
Still, that investigation probably had limits anyway with Biden in charge of the weaponized Department of Justice (DOJ).
Nevertheless, it would not exempt prosecuting Hunter Biden on gun and tax violations.
Trump has long said the DOJ and FBI should be defunded over their “witch hunt” against him.
So far, similar proposals by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) haven’t gotten any traction.
However, Greene was previously taken off committees, so there’s a difference with Jordan’s move.
There’s no doubt opposing political parties and the deep state have gone off the rails by using political prosecutions to try to take out Trump.
The independent spirit of Americans, particularly conservatives, has made those efforts backfire so far and have generally pushed Trump higher in the polls.
It doesn’t seem like Democrats can stop themselves from going after Trump even when it is so clearly hurting them, however.
Their dishonest actions now appear to be coming back to bite them.
