Trey Gowdy Disagrees With Ilhan Omar That Cops Are To Blame For Crime Surge: “In her world there is no personal responsibility”

Fox News host Trey Gowdy called out Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., after she blamed police for the recent rise in crime in her district. She also accused the city’s “dysfunctional” police department of betraying their oath of office.

Omar blamed the surging “lawlessness” in Minneapolis on the fact that “the police have chosen to not fulfill their oath of office and to provide the public safety they are owed to the citizens they serve” during a recent town hall.

Gowdy was not impressed saying: “The police are apparently to blame for the murder, rape and carjacking. Don’t blame the perpetrator, don’t blame the person actually committing the crime, blame the police.

“In her world, there is no personal responsibility. Nothing is ever anyone’s fault unless you are rich or a cop, or Jewish. Those are the real bad guys.

“In South Carolina, the people who repeatedly start fires, are called arsonists.

“In Minnesota, they are called members of Congress.

“The media just ignores the duplicity.

“When Republicans say stupid things, the media is quick to report on that.

“And we should all be quick to condemn irresponsible and inaccurate remarks regardless of who makes them.

“But you will not see media hold her to account because they never do.”

Gowdy then reported on the massive increase in homicide rates in her district, 17% in the last year with a record for murders before saying:

“Freedom is great, but only works if there’s a corresponding responsibility.

“The two cannot be separated.”

From Yahoo:

A Democratic congresswoman said it’s the police’s fault that a Minnesota city has experienced a crime surge.

Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, accused the city’s police officers of not fulfilling their oath of office.

“What we must also recognize is that the reduction in policing currently in our city and the lawlessness that is happening is due to two things,” Omar said at a town hall on Saturday. “One, the police have chosen to not fulfill their oath of office and to provide the public safety they are owed to the citizens they serve.”

Violent crime in the city increased 17% in roughly the past year, according to the Uniform Crime Report. The Minneapolis Police Department has been marred since former officer Derek Chauvin killed George Floyd on May 25, 2020.

Chauvin was convicted of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in April.

“The Minneapolis Police Department is the most dysfunctional police department in our state and probably in our country,” Omar added.
