Trump Named as Time Magazine’s ‘Person of the Year’

President Donald Trump has been named Time magazine’s “Person of the Year.”

The president-elect beat several high-profile names on the shortlist, including the Princess of Wales and Elon Musk.

Trump will celebrate by ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange later.

It comes after Trump survived two assassination attempts in recent months.

He has also faced unprecedented court battles after being targeted by the Democrats’ lawfare campaign.

Despite the astonishing levels of adversity he’s faced this year, Trump went on to win re-election in a historic landslide victory last month.

Trump won the popular vote in last month’s election and claimed all seven swing states.

His return to the White House also makes Trump only the second president in history to serve two non-consecutive terms.

Since his victory, Trump has been making appointments to his forthcoming administration.

He has vowed sweeping changes and promised to undo much of the damage caused by the Democrats over the past four years.

Trump was also Time’s “Person of the Year” in 2016 – the year he first won the White House.

His second election win is “history-making in multiple ways,” Time said when it announced the shortlist.

Trump will be the “oldest president in US history” entering office at the age of 78 years and seven months.

When Joe Biden began his term in 2021, he was 78 years and two months old.

However, Time apparently couldn’t resist taking a dig at Trump.

The magazine described Trump as the “first convicted felon to be elected president.”

Time was referring to Trump’s sham conviction in the Democrats’ “hush money” case.

President Trump had some stiff competition for the coveted prize this year, however.

The Princess of Wales, who has been undergoing cancer treatment, “stirred a conversation about privacy and health for public figures,” Time said.

Kate has now returned to public duties.

Recently, she attended her annual Christmas carol service with her family at Westminster Abbey.

Musk – the billionaire behind Tesla and SpaceX – has “long been an innovative disrupter,” Time said on its shortlist.

He has also become politically active this year, supporting Trump in his bid to retain the White House.

Musk reportedly spent more than a quarter of a billion dollars in the process.

Others on the shortlist included Yulia Navalnaya, whose husband, the Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, died in February.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was also Time’s 10-person shortlist, as was podcaster Joe Rogan and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
