President Donald Trump has put his personal feelings aside and spoken out to defend his former vice president after classified documents were discovered in Mike Pence’s Indiana home.
Trump said: “Mike Pence is an innocent man.
“He never did anything knowingly dishonest in his life. Leave him alone.”
Pence’s lawyer Greg Jacob said, “A small number of documents bearing classified markings that were inadvertently boxed and transported to the personal home of the former vice president at the end of the last administration.
“Vice President Pence was unaware of the existence of sensitive or classified documents at his personal residence and understands the high importance of protecting sensitive and classified information and stands ready and willing to cooperate fully with the National Archives and any appropriate inquiry.”
Jacobs added that Pence had “engaged outside counsel out of an abundance of caution” after the Biden documents were found.
According to KRCA: “Jacob said the Pence documents were immediately secured in a locked safe.
“According to a follow-up letter from the lawyer dated Jan. 22, FBI agents visited Pence’s residence the night of Jan. 19 to collect the documents that had been secured.
“He was still in Washington at the time.
“A total of four boxes containing copies of administration papers —- two in which ‘a small number’ of papers bearing classified markings were found, and two containing ‘courtesy copies of vice presidential papers’ were discovered.
“Arrangements were made to deliver those boxes to the National Archives Monday.”
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) said:
“Former Vice President Mike Pence reached out today about classified documents found at his home in Indiana.
“He has agreed to fully cooperate with congressional oversight and any questions we have about the matter.
“Former Vice President Pence’s transparency stands in stark contrast to Biden White House staff who continue to withhold information from Congress and the American people.”
