Grenell played a key role in negotiating the release.
He posted a photo on X alongside the six freed Americans.
Grenell noted that they had spoken with Trump and were overwhelmed with gratitude.
“We are wheels up and headed home with these 6 American citizens,” Grenell wrote.
“They just spoke to @realDonaldTrump and they couldn’t stop thanking him.”

The release follows Grenell’s direct engagement with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
According to Reuters, Grenell traveled to Venezuela to meet with Maduro.
The missions sought to “secure the release of Americans detained” in the country.
The Venezuelan government has accused detained Americans of crimes including “terrorism.”
The socialist dictatorship has described some of them as “mercenaries,” according to reports from Reuters.
While all the names of those released have not been made public, the Associated Press estimates that as many as ten Americans remain in Venezuelan custody.
Trump’s administration has maintained a strong stance on securing the release of Americans held abroad.
Grenell, who previously served as Acting Director of National Intelligence, has been instrumental in diplomatic efforts to bring detained U.S. citizens home.
When President Trump had the foresight to name @RichardGrenell Special Presidential Envoy for Special Missions, a lot of people in the swamp rudely snickered about what this job would be — now you understand. Ric is one of the most effective and proven emissaries America has. https://t.co/q4zOtXm2Z0

As the six Americans return to the United States, officials continue working to secure the release of others still held in Venezuela.
