The accused killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, Luigi Mangione, has finally broken his silence and released his first public statement.
In the statement, Mangione expresses gratitude to his supporters.
The message appeared on a newly launched website created by his legal defense team.
The website seeks to counter misinformation and provide updates on his case.
He is currently being held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center.
In the statement, which has left critics stunned, Mangione said:
“I am overwhelmed by – and grateful for – everyone who has written me to share their stories and express their support.
“Powerfully, this support has transcended political, racial, and even class divisions, as mail has flooded MDC from across the country, and around the globe.
“While it is impossible for me to reply to most letters, please know that I read every one that I receive,” he continued.
“Thank you again to everyone who took the time to write.
“I look forward to hearing more in the future.”

The statement was released just days after Mangione accepted nearly $300,000 in donations.
More than 10,000 donors have now contributed to his legal defense.
The 26-year-old faces charges of first-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism for the December 4 assassination of Thompson outside a Midtown hotel in New York City.
Prosecutors allege he shot the 50-year-old healthcare executive and father of two in cold blood before fleeing the scene.
Following an intense five-day manhunt, Mangione was arrested in Pennsylvania.
Authorities have linked him to a manifesto in which he criticized the healthcare industry.
Since his arrest, Mangione has pleaded not guilty to multiple state and federal charges connected to the killing.
If convicted in his federal case, he could face the death penalty.
Rolling Stone confirmed the website featuring Mangione’s statement as legitimate.
However, his attorney, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, did not immediately respond to media inquiries regarding its creation.
Mangione’s case continues to draw national attention as he awaits trial.
Many have been outraged over the killer’s support from “fans.”
