A video has been released that shows the moment a 10-foot-long alligator lunges at an 85-year-old woman in Florida.
The video does not show the beast dragging the woman into the lake after she tried to protect her dog.
She did not survive.
The video you can see below was obtained by Inside Edition.
It shows Gloria Serge standing with her leashed dog along a lake outside Spanish Lakes Fairways, a community in Fort Pierce, Florida.
The alligator is seen surfacing and swimming sneakily toward the woman and her dog.
She does not notice it until it leaves the water and at that time she tries to protect her dog, the beast’s intended target.
Serge was dragged underwater and killed in the attack.
WATCH:
Neighbor Carol Thomas said she tried to help Serge while speaking with 911.
“There’s a woman in the lake! The alligator’s got her!” Thomas told the dispatcher.
“I think she’s gone. Oh my God.”
Thomas said she tried to use a pole and help pull Serge out of the lake but she was not successful.
“There is no way I could have gotten to her sooner,” she said.
“It’s horrible for her family. It’s just horrible, horrible.
“And her friends, I spoke to a couple of her friends yesterday who are devastated.”
Alligator trapper Robert Lilly said “it was definitely a fight” to catch the monster.
“We snagged him on the bottom,” Lilly said.
“He never surfaced. He stayed down the whole time.
“We were able to get a second hook in him and a hard line in him so we could get him up.”
