Conservative Icon Lou Dobbs Dead at 78

Conservative political talk show host and journalist Lou Dobbs has died, according to his family.

Dobbs tragically passed away at the age of 78 on Thursday.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of ‘The Great Lou Dobbs,’” his official social media account announced.

“Lou was a fighter till the very end — fighting for what mattered to him the most, God, his family, and the country.

“Lou’s legacy will forever live on as a Patriot and a great American,” the post continued.

“We ask for your prayers for Lou’s wonderful wife Debi, children, and grandchildren.”

Dobbs spent more than four decades in journalism, most notably with CNN.

He joined CNN when the network initially launched in 1980 before moving to Fox News.

He was an outspoken supporter of President Donald Trump and conservative causes.

Dobbs was also a vocal critic of former President Barack Obama.

Trump offered his condolences after breaking the news of Dobbs’ death.

“He understood the World, and what was ‘happening,’ better than others,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

“Lou was unique in so many ways and loved our Country.

“Our warmest condolences to his wonderful wife, Debi, and family.

“He will be greatly missed!” he added.

Dobbs was the longtime host of his highly-rated right-wing talk show on the Fox Business Network “Lou Dobbs Tonight.”

He was fired in 2021 after he was named in a $2.7 billion lawsuit filed by a voting technology company, Smartmatic.

The lawsuit alleged that Dobbs and other Fox hosts defamed Smartmatic while reporting on President Trump’s concerns about fraud in the 2020 election.

For nearly 30 years, Dobbs worked as an anchor, managing editor, and executive vice president for CNN.

He hosted various shows on CNN before he suddenly resigned in 2009 after clashing with management.

A year later, he joined Fox Business, where his show grew to be the network’s highest-rated show before his firing.

“Lou was one of the CNN originals, who helped launch and shape the network,” A CNN spokesperson said of Dobbs’ death.

“We are saddened to hear about his passing and extend our sincerest condolences to his wife Debi, children, and his family.”

A Fox News spokesperson remembered Dobbs as “an incredible business mind with a gift for broadcasting, Lou helped pioneer cable news into a successful and influential industry.

“We are immensely grateful for his many contributions and send our heartfelt condolences to his family.”

Dobbs also helped launch the popular space news website Space.com in 1999 and became its chief executive officer.
