Democrat Elected Official Arrested for Murder of Las Vegas Reporter

An elected Democrat official has been arrested for the murder of a Las Vegas reporter, according to authorities.

Clark County Public Administrator Robert Telles, a Democrat, was arrested on suspicion of murder Wednesday following a raid on his home.

As Slay News previously reported, Telles has been the focus of a police investigation into the brutal fatal stabbing of Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Jeff German.

Telles was taken into custody at his home by police SWAT officers.

Police were seen wheeling Telles out on a stretcher, which he was strapped to, before loading him into the back of a Las Vegas Fire & Rescue vehicle.

Telles, 45, is being held at the Clark County Detention Center and is due in court Thursday afternoon.

He faces a charge of murder with a deadly weapon.

Executive Editor of the Review-Journal Glenn Cook said: “The arrest of Robert Telles is at once an enormous relief and an outrage for the Review-Journal newsroom.

“We are relieved Telles is in custody and outraged that a colleague appears to have been killed for reporting on an elected official.

“Journalists can’t do the important work our communities require if they are afraid a presentation of facts could lead to violent retribution.

“We thank Las Vegas police for their urgency and hard work and for immediately recognizing the terrible significance of Jeff’s killing,” he said.

“Now, hopefully, the Review-Journal, the German family, and Jeff’s many friends can begin the process of mourning and honoring a great man and a brave reporter.”

German wrote critical stories about Telles before the recent Democrat primary, which he lost.

Local news outlet CBS8 revealed that Telles made several posts on Twitter where he refers to German.

In one tweet on June 18, he wrote:

“Looking forward to lying smear piece #4 by @JGermanRJ. #onetrickpony I think he’s mad that I haven’t crawled into a hole and died. @LVRJ #LasVegas”

In another tweet on the same day, he wrote:

“Wife hears rustling in the trash* Her: ‘Honey, is there a wild animal in the trash?’ Me: ‘No, dear. Look like it’s @JGermanRJ going through our trash for his 4th story on me.’ Oh, Jeff @LVRJ #LasVegas”
