Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) has called for a reparations system that involves allowing “black folk” in America to be exempt from paying taxes.
Crockett argues that a tax-free system would put “money back” in the “pocket” of black Americans.
The U.S. Congresswoman explained the idea during a new interview where she argued that “you owe for the labor that was stolen.”
Crockett didn’t elaborate on who she feels should “owe for the labor,” however.
In a video interview shared on X, Crockett said:
“Just this past week I saw, I don’t remember which celebrity, but it was actually a celebrity, and I was like, that’s not necessarily a bad idea, but I’d have to think through it a lot.
“One of the things that they propose is black folk not have to pay taxes for a certain amount of time.”
“Because then again, that puts money back in your pocket,” said Crockett.
However, Crockett then claimed that black people may not support the idea because, in her opinion, a lot of “black folk” are already not paying taxes.
The Democrat lawmaker then suggested that black Americans prefer to get free checks from the government.

Crockett previously made headlines over her stunning defense of Democrat President Joe Biden and his son Hunter during a congressional hearing.
During a September 2023 hearing on President Biden’s impeachment, Crockett said:
“I will tell you what Joe Biden has been guilty of.
“He is unfortunately been guilty of loving his child unconditionally and that is the only evidence that they have brought forward.
“And honestly, I hope and pray that my parents love me half as much as he loves his child.”

Crockett has represented Texas’s 30th Congressional District since 2023.
She previously served in the Texas House of Representatives from 2021 to 2023.
During her first year in the Texas House, she introduced 60 bills, Dallas City Wire reported.
However, not one of those bills passed.
