Elon Musk Holds Secretive Meeting with Kevin McCarthy in D.C

Twitter boss Elon Musk was in Washington D.C. this week and held a secretive meeting with Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).

The meeting has provoked speculation regarding what the two discussed.

While Musk acknowledged on Twitter that they met, little has been revealed about what they spoke about.

Musk tweeted that he met with both McCarthy and Democrat House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).

“Just met with @SpeakerMcCarthy & @RepJeffries to discuss ensuring that this platform is fair to both parties,” Musk said.

McCarthy remained tight-lipped about the meeting when he spoke to reporters, however.

The speaker said only that they were old friends and that Musk had come to offer his best wishes on McCarthy’s 58th birthday.

Yet Musk indicated that the visit was all about business.

According to Axios, Musk reportedly didn’t have a scheduled meeting with the Democrat and met him in passing in McCarthy’s office.

Musk and McCarthy have been allies for some time.

The Twitter boss supported the Republican in his drawn-out bid to become speaker this month and spoke at a GOP retreat that McCarthy hosted in Wyoming last summer.

McCarthy has stood up for Musk, too, telling the Biden administration to stop targetting on him after he bought Twitter.

One of McCarthy’s first moves as speaker was to form a new panel to tackle the “weaponization” of the government and investigate Democrat President Joe Biden’s efforts to censor social media platforms.

The decision was partly inspired by the explosive Twitter Files.

Among the many things revealed in the Twitter Files was the federal government’s efforts to censor reports about Hunter Biden and his shady business deals, much of which implicate his father.

The GOP-led House Oversight Committee is planning a hearing on the Hunter Biden issue.

Since buying Twitter in late October, Musk, a self-proclaimed free-speech absolutist, has vowed to eliminate censorship on the platform and restore transparency to the company.
