Ex-CIA Chief Endorses Tulsi Gabbard for DNI Confirmation

Several of President Donald Trump’s Cabinet and advisor selections have faced extreme resistance from the Washington D.C. establishment and corporate media.

According to the New York Post, Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democrat lawmaker who switched to the Republican Party this year, is gaining major support for her upcoming Senate confirmation.

Trump picked Gabbard to be his Director of National Intelligence (DNI).

The nomination for the high-profile post shows Trump’s high confidence level in Gabbard’s abilities.

However, Gabbard hasn’t seen as much resistance as other Trump hires, like Matt Gaetz and Pete Hegseth.

A former CIA counterterrorism chief recently explained why he backs Gabbard’s confirmation to become the next DNI in a recent editorial in National Review.

Bernard Hudson, a Harvard fellow and 28-year CIA veteran who oversaw the agency’s war on terrorism, said:

“She has the right experience, temperament, and professional integrity to restore faith in America’s intelligence community.”

The Post added:

Restoring faith in the intelligence community is an “urgent task,” he said, following “spectacularly wrong calls” by the the US intelligence community in recent years and “flimsy accusations” that a sitting US president was also a Russian agent.

Hudson added that her bipartisan background “could go a long way toward reestablishing credibility with Americans.”

The DNI is a powerful position in any Cabinet.

It oversees the nation’s 17 intelligence agencies.

Her nomination didn’t come without controversy at the beginning, however.

A smear campaign was quickly launched due to allegations against “her of being an agent of Russia.”

Those allegations “focused on her meeting with Syria’s dictator Bashar Al-Assad in 2017,” the Post noted.

The president-elect heaped praise on Gabbard and her ability to lead the nation’s intelligence and counterintelligence agencies.

The intelligence agencies play a critical role in the safety of Americans both at home and abroad.

“I know Tulsi will bring the fearless spirit that has defined her illustrious career to our Intelligence Community, championing our Constitutional Rights, and securing Peace through Strength,” Trump wrote in November.

Gabbard has received a ton of praise from Trump’s supporters even before she switched to the Republican Party and ultimately endorsed Trump earlier this year.

Try as they may, it appears that Gabbard won’t have much in the way of a tough time being confirmed in the Republican-controlled Senate in January.
