FBI Agent Fails to Show for Congressional Testimony after Lies about Hunter Biden Laptop Exposed

FBI agent Elvis Chan has failed to show up for a congressional testimony before the House Judiciary Committee and Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH).

Chan’s no-show comes after he was caught in an apparent lie under oath over claims about his role in censoring the Hunter Biden “Laptop from Hell” story.

The FBI agent was scheduled to testify before Jordan and the Judiciary Committee on Thursday but didn’t turn up.

After he previously failed to attend another scheduled interview, the Judiciary Committee subpoenaed Chan on September 21 to appear for an interview on Thursday.

Chan was nowhere to be found at the time the interview was scheduled, and could not be reached.

“Everything is on the table for Mr. Chan, including contempt,” Russell Dye, a spokesperson for the House Judiciary Committee told the Daily Caller.

Chan’s testimony was initially expected to take place on September 15.

However, a dispute between the committee and the Department of Justice (DOJ) resulted in Chan’s interview falling through.

The Judiciary Committee sent an initial subpoena for Chan to testify following the failed interview.

“Today, after an FBI employee traveled across the country to voluntarily participate in a scheduled interview, he was denied the right to have his chosen legal counsel accompany him,” the FBI said in a statement at the time.

“Upon arrival at the Capitol, Committee staff directed agency counsel to leave the premises, and the interview was unable to proceed,” the FBI added.

The Judiciary Committee accused the DOJ of obstructing Chan’s testimony by sending an attorney to represent him when he had already decided to be represented by a personal attorney in accordance with committee rules.

In August, Jordan shared internal Facebook documents that appeared to show Chan lied under oath about his meetings with Facebook related to the Hunter Biden laptop story ahead of the 2020 presidential election, as Slay News reported.

“Internal FB docs reveal that an FBI Special Agent made false statements in testimony about the FBI’s role in the suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story,” Jordan tweeted on August 7, 2023.

Chan worked on the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force (FITF) ahead of the 2020 presidential election and coordinated with social media companies to censor speech online, according to the “Twitter Files” trove of internal documents.

He joined FITF Section Chief Laura Dehmlow in a meeting with Facebook on October 14, 2020, to discuss the New York Post’s reporting on the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop.

The FBI told Facebook “no comment” when company officials asked the bureau if the laptop contents were real, Dehmlow testified.

IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley testified to the House Ways and Means Committee in May and said the FBI verified the laptop’s authenticity in November 2019 by matching the device to Biden’s iCloud ID.

The laptop contents have been verified by multiple media outlets including the New York Times and Washington Post.

Hunter Biden is currently suing Delaware computer repairman John Paul Mac Isaac, former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani, and former Trump aide Garrett Ziegler for disseminating the contents of his laptop.

Elvis Chan gave a deposition in November 2022 as part of the ongoing censorship lawsuit against the Biden administration.

He stated that he was “confident” he did not participate in any meetings related to Hunter Biden besides the one on October 14, 2020.

“I was confident that I was not a party to any meeting with social media companies where Hunter Biden was discussed outside of the one incident that I told you about,” Chan said.

The FBI agent added that he was not aware of any communications between the FBI and Facebook related to the Hunter Biden laptop story, Jordan found.

Jordan shared an internal document showing Chan held a “follow-up” meeting with Facebook about the Hunter Biden laptop the following day.

“The Committee has recently obtained an internal Facebook document PROVING that Agent Chan had a secret ‘follow up’ call with Facebook about the Hunter Biden laptop story on October 15,” Jordan tweeted.

“Chan advised that he was up to speed on the current state of the matter within the FBI and that there was no current evidence to suggest any foreign connection or direction of the leak,” a Facebook employee said about the meeting, according to internal communications released by Jordan.

Jordan announced Wednesday he is running for Speaker of the House, as Slay News reported.

The move comes after Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was ousted as speaker Tuesday by a group of eight Republicans who joined with Democrats to vote in favor of a motion to vacate the chair.
