The rumors are swirling that Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) may run in 2024 as a third-party presidential candidate or upend the established order and go against President Joe Biden in the Democrat primary.
A group of big names is behind No Labels, a group pushing for a third-party candidate.
Manchin is No Labels’ dream candidate for president.
The group says: “No Labels is working to ensure Americans have the choice to vote for a presidential ticket that features strong, effective, and honest leaders who will commit to working closely with both parties to find commonsense solutions to America’s biggest problems.”
Manchin has been loudly rebuking Biden lately.
The Democrat senator recently made his case directly to a gathering of 170 members of the Greater Des Moines Partnership.
He told the group he’s “fiscally responsible and socially compassionate.
“I believe the government should be your partner.
“I’m not your provider,” Manchin said.
“When people say, ‘What’s your politics?’ I say I’m fiscally responsible and socially compassionate, which I think most Americans are.”
When a reported asked the senator about running for president, Manchin said:
“Honest to God, my main concern: How do we save this nation?
“How do we bring people together to protect the quality of life, the values that we’ve had that we were raised with?
“That’s all,” he added while avoiding answering the question.
“You have got to fight for the reasonable, responsible middle and no one is doing that.
“There’s no options,” Manchin answered.
Manchin’s words will likely strike fear into Biden’s camp.
“This is an insurance policy for a unique American moment,” Nancy Jacobson, the founder and CEO of No Labels, told Axios.
“We like to say one-ticket, one-time.
“This is not a third party, it’s one Democrat and one Republican.
“Everyone will have a seat at the table.
“Right now we know people don’t want a rematch.
“There’s a huge opening, the likes of which we have never seen.
“If Biden moves to the center, there may not be an opening.”

Manchin also rebuked Biden in a tough statement:
“This Administration is determined to advance its radical climate agenda and has made it clear they are hellbent on doing everything in their power to regulate coal and gas-fueled power plants out of existence, no matter the cost to energy security and reliability.
“Just last week, before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, every FERC Commissioner agreed that we cannot eliminate coal today or in the near future if we want to have a reliable electric grid.
“If the reports are true, the pending EPA proposal would impact nearly all fossil-fueled power plants in the United States, which generate about 60 percent of our electricity, without an adequate plan to replace the lost baseload generation.
“This piles on top of a broader regulatory agenda being rolled out designed to kill the fossil industry by a thousand cuts.
“Neither the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law nor the IRA gave new authority to regulate power plant emission standards.
“However, I fear that this Administration’s commitment to their extreme ideology overshadows their responsibility to ensure long-lasting energy and economic security and I will oppose all EPA nominees until they halt their government overreach.”
