Republican Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is calling upon his fellow GOP Senators to grow a “backbone” and to impeach Democrat President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Cruz made the call during an appearance on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures.”
The senator’s appearance comes after the U.S. House of Representatives, under the leadership of Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), voted to impeach Mayorkas last week, as Slay News reported.
Cruz, now, is calling upon Republicans in the U.S. Senate to follow the lead of their GOP colleagues in the House.
During his Fox News appearance, Cruz began by bringing up the fact that the Senate is currently controlled by the Democrats and that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is going to be looking to squash the impeachment effort.
“I got to tell you, with the Mayorkas impeachment, you know what Schumer wants to do?” Cruz said to host Maria Bartiromo.
“He doesn’t even want to have a trial.
“He doesn’t even want to have senators vote on guilty or not guilty.
“What he’s trying to do is simply table it, just put it aside.”
The U.S. senator went on to highlight the fact that, in the history of America, “the Senate has never once tabled articles of impeachment.”
Cruz, then, called upon his fellow Senate Republicans to fight back against Schumer’s effort to table Mayorkas’ impeachment.
“And I got to say, look, if Republican leadership in the Senate doesn’t like the criticism, here’s an opportunity to demonstrate some backbone,” Cruz said.
He added, “They could stand up and say, let’s have a trial.
“They can stand up and say, you cannot refuse to even follow the constitutional process for impeachment.
“You can’t dodge responsibility.”

The House impeached Mayorkas on Tuesday.
Fox News, at the time, reported, “This is the first time a Cabinet secretary has been impeached by the U.S. Congress since 1876.”
Mayorkas was impeached for failing to uphold the law, specifically, for failing to enforce America’s immigration laws, which is evidenced by the record-setting illegal immigration that has been taking place.
Cruz and his allies in the Senate have been pushing hard for Republican leadership in the upper chamber to force Schumer to proceed with an impeachment trial, The Hill reports.
But, at the time of writing, there has been little sign of movement from the likes of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
