Tim Allen Takes Swipe at Disney over Toy Story Snub: ‘It Was Very Confusing to All of Us’

Tim Allen took another swipe at Disney after the studio replaced him with Chris Evans in last year’s “Buzz Lightyear” movie.

Allen has always played the role but Disney wanted a different actor to play Buzz in “Lightyear.”

Many thought it was over Allen’s conservative views.

“Lightyear” bombed at the box office, however.

So Allen is back as Buzz Lightyear for a new film in the franchise after new management took control of Disney.

Allen who is returning as Buzz for “Toy Story 5,” said: “They were two completely different movies.

“And Chris did a great job doing an ancillary part.

“It was very confusing to all of us on the Toy Story movie side, which was real?

“I’m a script guy, so if Buzz is real, then Chris’s version of it was, as an actor doing it, real confusing to me.”

“Lightyear” flopped, earning only $51.7 million in North America.

According to reports the studio lost $106 million on the dud.

Allen said of the new movie: “Toy Story 5 had been kind of laid down quite a while ago, but we just couldn’t get into it.

“Then Disney announced it about two months ago.

“So I’ve made friends with all of the people in Toy Story, especially Tom Hanks.

“So for that, I’m blessed to have these friends in my life.

“I love that character.

“I love that story.

“So I always wait to see the script.”

He said Disney was planning “Toy Story 5” in secret but Allen wasn’t sure it would work.

“They came up with that.

“I think it’s getting close and I said unless it could have been done really well I know that the crew didn’t want to do it.

“So none of us could mention any of this.

“Even when all the ancillary Buzz or Lightyear movie was coming out, this was all in play.

“So it was kind of peculiar. That’s all,” he said.
