Republican Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) has dropped the hammer on Merrick Garland by giving Democrat President Joe Biden’s attorney general an ultimatum.
Cotton warned Garland he should either “resign in disgrace” now or “face impeachment” when Republicans take back control of Congress.
The senator issued the warning after AG Garland failed to prosecute protesters at Supreme Court justices’ homes before a man was arrested trying to kill Brett Kavanaugh on Wednesday.
“There’s an explicit federal law against protesting in front of the homes of judges or jurors,” Cotton said.
“Yet again, the feckless and hapless Attorney General Merrick Garland did nothing even though he had advanced knowledge.
“He should resign in disgrace.
“And if he won’t resign in disgrace, then we should start impeachment proceedings against him in January when we are in control of Congress.
“Because the rule of law in this country must be enforced evenly, irrespective of one’s political parties and views.”
Cotton said on Twitter:
“A Democratic hit man tried to kill Justice Kavanaugh today.
“Now, left-wing street militias have again announced their intent to protest his home in direct violation of federal law.
“Merrick Garland must arrest every single one tonight or resign in disgrace.”
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is blaming the Democrats’ “deranged rhetoric” for the attempted assassination saying:
“The Left is angry and the rhetoric that comes from their political leaders, from the radical extreme, is getting more and more heightened.
“And the problem is what we saw early this morning with the lunatic that came to murder Justice Kavanaugh.
“It is a crime, it is a felony to protest outside a judge’s home while a judge is considering a case.
“You have Joe Biden’s White House urging people to commit felonies.
“And we’re seeing the effect of their rhetoric and it’s dangerous.
“The radical Left hates their political opponents and they condone violence as a means of getting what they want.”
Senator Cruz said the armed leftist, Nicholas John Roske, “followed through on deranged rhetoric from elected Democrats.”
Cruz slammed the Biden administration too for “encouraging” the illegal protests in front of justices’ homes.

In March 2020, during a speech at a pro-abortion rally, Chuck Schumer said:
“I want to tell you, Gorsuch, I want to tell you, Kavanaugh, you have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price.
“You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions,” he said.
