Anti-Child Trafficking Movie ‘Sound of Freedom’ Tops Box Office on Independence Day

The Jim Caviezel-led anti-child trafficking movie “Sound of Freedom” took the top spot at the box office on Independence Day when the film hit theaters across America.

The independent film from Angel Studios was up against stiff competition from big-budget movies.

However, “Sound of Freedom” still managed to land in the number one spot.

The movie beat out Disney’s highly-anticipated “Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny,” among others, Box Office Mojo reported.

“Sound of Freedom,” which exposes the horrors of human trafficking, scored $14.2 million at the box office ($11.5 million at the direct box office combined with another $2.6 million from PAY IT FORWARD tickets sold), per a release from the studio.

The box office report showed that “Sound of Freedom” grossed $14,242,o63 after the movie’s opening on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Disney’s “Indiana Jones” sequel, which opened on June 30, earned $11,698,989 from more than 4,000 theaters.

Neal Harmon, CEO of Angel Studios, which is also responsible for the popular faith-based television series “The Chosen,” thanked the American people for supporting the film.

“Thanks to fans around the country, ‘SOUND OF FREEDOM’ earned the top spot as America’s number one movie on Independence Day,” Harmon shared in the studio’s release.

“We’ve received numerous messages telling us theaters are either packed or sold out,” he added.

“This movie has now taken on a life of its own to become something more than that, a grassroots movement.

“With an A+ CinemaScore rating, we’re the top-rated movie in America, and we’re going to see word-of-mouth spread even further going into the weekend.”

“The world needs to see SOUND OF FREEDOM, and we know that our biggest competitive advantage—our incredible fans and investors—are going to make sure that happens,” Harmon continued.
