Far-Left Groups Attacking Elon Musk over Twitter Buy Received Millions in Taxpayer Money

At least nine of the two dozen far-left groups that attacked Elon Musk over his Twitter takeover effort received millions of dollars in taxpayer money from the U.S. government, financial documents have revealed.

In April, several far-left groups wrote a letter to Twitter’s advertisers to demand a boycott of the social media company if Musk takes over.

Some of those groups were funded by radical billionaire George Soros.

Around the same time, in what appears to be a coordinated attack, CNN also published a hit piece on Musk and Twitter.

The Left has been outraged at Musk’s pledge to restore free speech on Twitter and end the practices that unfairly censor conservatives.

Here is the list of far-left organizations that signed the letter:

  • Access Now
  • Accountable Tech
  • Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation
  • Center for Countering Digital Hate
  • Empowering Pacific Islander Communities (EPIC)
  • Face the Music Collective
  • Fair Vote UK
  • Free Press
  • Friends of the Earth
  • Gender Equity Policy Institute
  • GLAAD
  • Global Project Against Hate and Extremism
  • Indivisible Northern Nevada
  • Kairos
  • Media Matters for America
  • MediaJustice
  • NARAL Pro-Choice America
  • National Hispanic Media Coalition
  • Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice
  • Reproaction
  • Stop Online Violence Against Women Inc
  • The Sparrow Project
  • UltraViolet
  • Union of Concerned Scientists
  • V-Day/One Billion Rising
  • Women’s March

After the letter was sent, Musk suggested that someone should investigate the groups threatening the Twitter ad boycott.

The stated mission for these groups pressuring advertisers is to enact strict “content moderation” policies.

Such policies stifle free speech and are usually disproportionately enforced on conservatives by left-wing moderators.

Following an investigation by the watchdog group, OpenTheBooks, financial documents and filings revealed that at least nine of these groups received millions in government funding.

OpenTheBooks released a report that showed organizations hostile to Musk’s attempt to purchase and improve Twitter have benefited from $10.5 million in taxpayer-backed loans recently.

The government spending watchdog found that nine of the groups, including Black Lives Matter, Union of Concerned Scientists, and Media Matters for America, had received $10.5 million in federal funds, mostly via loans from the Small Business Administration in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

The nonprofit pointed out that Black Lives Matter received their loans just as their leadership was encouraging protests that involved damaging and looting small businesses.
