Pelosi Comes Clean on Soaring Crime: ‘Public Safety Is Our Responsibility, Defund the Police Is Dead’

Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has finally come clean about the spiraling crime in Democratic cities across America.

During an appearance on ABC, Pelosi tried to convince Democrat supporters that the party is in good shape heading into the midterms.

However, it didn’t go according to plan when George Stephanopoulos asked Pelosi about rising crime, a huge issue for swing voters, and she came up short.

“The other thing weighing on people now is rising crime,” Stephanopoulos said,

“There appear to be some divisions among Democrats on how to handle it.

“Your colleague Karen Bass running for mayor of Los Angeles trying to increase had the police force in L.A.

“Cori Bush, a congresswoman from Missouri, is saying it’s time to defund the police.

“She is sticking by that. You’re the speaker.

“How do you think Democrats should address rising crime?”

Pelosi said: “With all due respect in the world for Cori Bush, that’s not the position of the Democratic Party.

“Community safety to protect and defend in every way is our oath of office.

“We’re all concerned about the mistreatment of people.

“That’s why Karen Bass had The Justice in Policing Act.

“We would hope to get some of that done, whether it’s no-knock, chokehold, or some of those issues even if we can’t get it all done.

“Make no mistake, community safety is our responsibility.

“I quote one of my colleagues from New York, Ritchie Torres, a brand new member of Congress way on the left, saying that ‘defund the police’ is dead.

“That causes a concern with a few in our caucus.

“But public safety is our responsibility.”

As Slay News first reported last week, Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) is doubling down on her “defund the police” efforts, despite backlash from other Democrats who fear a red wave in the midterms.

“I always tell fellow Democrats, ‘If you all had fixed this before I got here, I wouldn’t have to say these things’,” Bush said.

“’Defund the police’ is not the problem.

“We dangled the carrot in front of people’s faces and said we can get it done and that Democrats deliver when we haven’t totally delivered.

“If Republicans take the majority, it’s just done as far as trying to get the legislation across.”

“Oh, absolutely,” Bush said about Democrats asking her to stop using the slogan so they stand a chance in the 2022 midterms.

“I’ve had colleagues walk up to me and say that defund the police doesn’t help in their districts.

“If we couldn’t get George Floyd done back when millions of people were marching in the street, then how do we expect to get more than one thing done on policing over the next few years,” she said about breaking up the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act into smaller pieces that can pass as many want to do rather than try and fail again on a big bill.
